So, I prefer walking around in the dark. I've realised this now that it has started to get light. I also quite like walking around my house in the dark, provided that I don't trip over or walk into something I didn't expect. But my friend (most likely, ENFP) is much happier when it is light and would never consider walking around her house in the dark. And that made me wonder if a desire for the dark was an INTP trait or not.
But my question is: Do you prefer the dark or the light? And why?

I prefer the dark and I'm pretty good at walking around in the dark. I used to like the challenge of navigating a trail through the woods with only the light of stars or the moon to guide me. Having two house cats that like to dog my steps have made it so I don't walk around the house in the dark much anymore. My eyes adjust to the dark pretty well still. Sometimes I'm rather photosensitive.

i don't know if i can say i prefer it, but i certainly don't mind it. i used to love walking around in the woods at night, but even more so if the moon is out. sometimes i will be chillin doing something in my living room when it is light and it will slowly get dark and i just won't care enough to go turn on a light. and then my roommate will come upstairs and be like, wtf are you doing in the dark? and i will just be like, "oh, i dunno."

I'm only afraid of the dark when I'm all alone and I can't see a thing.
However, if only one of those statements were to be false, I would be completely fine with the dark. Playing the game Eternal Darkness in the dark is so ridiculously awesome. <3

Sometimes, when it's a full moon, I can't sleep.
It's just too damn bright. Sunlight is even worse, I can't even see properly during midday. |

Fantastic game. Me and two friends were playing it in the dark and we had really high insanity. We go into the next room and suddenly the volume is being turned down. "Uhhh, do you have the remote? Stop messing with it!" "I don't have it I thought Moe had it!" (Moe is asleep.) Then we figure it out... yah.

I don't love or hate the dark. I just go with whatever suits my purposes, which is usually light.

^ Agreed.
I don't like having too many lights on. Wastes power. So I turn them off when I notice them. I don't mind the dark. Though when I was young, I was scared of the dark. I was also scared of the toilet monster.

I'm a night person, so naturally I like the dark.
The only reason I get nervous when I walk at night is 'cause my town has a curfew for minors. I think it's either 10 or 10:30, and I'm obviously out much later than that. I don't want to be confronted by the police or anything. The only time I need a flashlight is when I'm on the traintracks, because otherwise I would trip every two seconds if the moon wasn't out. :P

I've had times where I had these very powerful feelings that there was this hideous monster thingy lurking in the darkness. I would imagine a very vivid mental picture of this...thing, and I would imagine it being able to move very quickly and behaving very strangely.
However, when my mind is at peace (relatively), I love the dark. Plus, bright lights are blinding for me as I have blue eyes.

I can't say I have a preference.
In the house, I need to have lights on if that's what you mean. But if you mean outdoors, I can walk around in the dark just as easily and comfortably as I can walk around in the sunlight.

I have been known to start working on a project in my room when the sun was bright enough to fully illumintate it and continue working for hours unimpeded by the fact that my room has become pitch black after the sun went down. I just did not notice that it had gotten dark.
Overall, I perfer overcast days and rooms that are not perfectly illuminated. I tend to be sensitive to brightness as a rule.

I prefer darkness. But I prefer being in darkness outside - with the moon, stars, night air, the quiet... I love it when it's the middle of the night and the rest of the house is sound asleep - the peace and quiet, the complete solitude!

I prefer the night-time, especially outside. I like going outside and just wandering around when there's a full moon or close to one, provided there aren't any clouds ready to rain on me. The air outside feels fresher and crisper at night for some reason, and everything is so much quieter. Traffic, people.. even the birds shut up for a few hours. It's wonderful... a brilliant way to find a little bit of peace. It's easier to do something when it's dark, too, because there are fewer people around and there aren't as many distractions or obligations to drag you away as there are during the daytime.

I enjoy the night. I get around perfectly fine in the dark. My mom's always turning on lights she thinks I need, when I'd rather that they weren't on. Like a few others, my eyes can be overly sensitive to light. So much so, that bright light is occasionally painful.

Night is SO much better than Day. I would prefer 1 hour of daylight to get the daylight stuff done, then the rest night. night is so much easier on eyes, ears, mentality, temperature, and presence of other people. Night gives me this metality that makes me not want to sleep, because when i wake up, it will be light out. Its not the same fore me as house lights, at nigh, i still keep my lights on, its being outside in the dark that really sparks something for me. Day i feel constricted, Night i feel like i can do ANYTHING

Night in a city or large town is wonderful, The air is cooler and I definitely get a sense of freedom that I don't get during the day..
If i've been in an irritable mood during the day, however, I can become quite paranoid as I become too tired to rationalize things, and my imagination runs riot. |

Somehow I've never been exposed to the phrase "runs riot". I'm going to use it a lot more...
but yeah. Dark is good, but being nocturnal is rough and lonely. I enjoy the sun... because I can look at the plants... and then imagine the biochemistry going on in them.

I enjoy partial illumination, be it a few weak lamps or twilight. Direct sunlight kills my eyes. Horrible.
I would very much enjoy walking around at night, but there's no where to go where I live. Not to mention it would involve sneaking out, as I doubt my mother would be overly fond of the idea of me prowling the streets in the night. I've only gone out once during the night, with some of my old friends. Probably one of the best times I'd had with them.

Bunch of pasty faced barnacles. Get your asses outside and get some sun ..........
Oh, who am I kidding? My wife calls me "Vampiro". She loves light and likes to open all the blinds in the house to let in as much as she can. The second she steps out of the door, I close every damn blind in the house. I feel better at night, I have more energy, plus I like that its quiet and relatively people free. But of course, I'm forced to live a daytimer's existence.

When I was really young, I used to prefer the light, but some magical switch flipped in me one day and made me just as comfortable in the dark. Light pollution annoys the heck out of me, though. It would be really nice to be able to see the stars properly again.
I also like reading in the dark, but doing that made me near-sighted, which I don't like to deal with.

Oh, yes. I can but add my voice in this choruse
![]() I mean, partly i get this "imagination runs riot", but it only goes so far as to give me goosebumps from time to time. That is when i am outside in the night (especially a moonless night). But i don't imagine monsters but rather critters, bugs (since i dislike them anyways already). But yea, being in the dark feels much more comfortable. I like it best in a night with stars and moon out (no clouds). Being in the city the night gives me another layer of 'protection', of 'cover' (adding to my beloved black kashmere-woollen coat ). Another nice thing is to be awake for most of the night and then i the mornings starting to see the light coming back. But as soon as the sun is fully on the sky, it's annoying and i go inside... Guess we're all a bunch of vampires here ![]() ![]() Ogion

every day, when the hateful orb above exits the sky, and calm descends upon the earth, i thank whatever gods still exist for the gift of night.
i can walk for miles as the air cools, and the alien sound of insects greets me. the city is rendered most attractive at night, especially when rain covers the streets, reflecting the burning sodium vapour lights in a surreal amber haze. from 1-4am, while energy still remains, and most of the sheep are safe in bed, i have the world to myself to indulge in quiet contemplation. i can disappear in my own thoughts, and my true self can emerge again. |

Isn't it funny? We experience the night as being the quiet, peaceful time of the 'day', even though there are many, many animals that are active in the night...
Oh and nicely written, merzbau Ogion

I prefer it when it is dark. Most things are so much less busy at night, and it's peaceful to just watch how the night unfolds from wherever you happen to be. When it is really late at night it feels like you are the only person up watching the world go by. The only problem with night is being near a big city; all those bright headlights ruin being able to see the stars clearly.
And with daylight brings the start of another busy day with lots of traffic and noise. I think I prefer to be on a different schedule than the world. |
