Default Do INTPs need work that is also social?

I'm an INTP and tend to keep to myself (although I have friends who I live with and hangout with). I've been freelancing unsuccessfully for four years since graduating college, living mostly from help from my parents. I'm trying to find a way to earn a living, and am considering internet entrepreneurship that I can do by myself at home--I'm thinking building a successful youtube channel.

One thing I read about INTPs recently is that we crave alone time, but need to force ourselves to get out of the house and interact with people, otherwise we become depressed. This seems contradictory--what is better for us, alone time work or working among people? Should I drop the career ideas that I can do on my own in favor of more traditional work in an office or somewhere where I interact with people?

Try doing both, you're going to need a steady source of income and you'll probably want to be financially independent. Financially independent and smooching housing from your parents of course hehe.

Being social is important for anyone really, because without it it's easy to fall into depressive mood swings. I don't think it's important to have work that's social, but it's important to have a small social life. If your current social life isn't enough, you should try to expand it a little- and having work friends isn't all that bad either.

What working in an office is like really depends upon your role and the people you're working with and the latter you get almost no control over.

If you do a YouTube channel you'll want to work with a team of people to produce content on a daily basis, doing a weekly or monthly video is no longer as profitable as it used to be.

I like work to be social for the sake of discussion and debate. This would be the ideal level of 'social' I would like in my career.

Even though I am an INTP (supposedly but I am quite retarded), I find myself needing to interact with people or animals just a bit so I don't slump into an insomnia inducing paranoia.

Most importantly, work must be ethical, i mean agreeable to me. Then there must not be any authoritative pressure resembling the exploitative, puppetering, entitled narcissism of my father, because i overreact to this by underachieving or leaving or sending my rat army (see Chrispin Clover's Willard - a movie). I think work in offices is typically too automatic, which has that vibe of entitlement and puppetering in the air, even if its not coming from one particular authority.

I enjoy being helpful very much and it greatly boosts my self esteem, as long as i am not failing in the role. I mean if there is an actual human being who is actually relieved or grateful that their problem is being solved by someone and they leave with a smile. Its a good feeling to give someone directions, for instance. Except that my sensotardation and dementia make me give poor direction for random questions.

I must find a way to utilize my introversion to provide value for others. If i live from auxiliary, tertiary or inferior functions, then the value of my work is only 40%, 30% or 10% of how valuable i feel i am, which absolutely destroys my confidence and spirit and does not even yield enough money to be worth the degradation. My whole life, society has only perceived me as being those 10%. I am a considered a white trash menial worker. I worked in a hospital once, but not as a nurse, only helping out. It was a good feeling to interact with the patients but the way those intellectually ordinary nurses looked down on me - expecting more than 10% Fe from me - made me insane and i had to leave.

Socializing as in discussing cool subjects with like-minded people is something quite different than attending dinner parties with half-strangers. I am energized by the former, and completely depleted of the will to live by the latter.

Umm. I don't think you need to necesarry have "social play" in your job. As you say you do get out with friends etc. so it is not like you would not have any... I am not sure since I did not really work yet but theoretically I see no problems...?

In my experience, being around others is enough. I don't need to outright interact in the rare cases I get the urge to be more social.

You definitely need to figure something out to prevent depression-laziness, as it's almost guaranteed to happen. I've tried everything, and the only thing that seems to help is ensuring I never slip into that rut (ie, prevention). Once there, I have to wait it off while sitting around doing nothing.

Nootropics (help with creativity, cognition/reasoning, and maybe motivation) are good things to look into. That is, it's better to be aware of nutrition/dieting, supplements, nootropics, and exercise than crap drugs or medication. See these posts:

Can't quite see why.
Why would u let a pedophile be surrounded by kids?
Sure. Let him do what he does best. OK sorry for the awful joke.
An artist working in a chain process? Making tuna cans.
How would this help them develop?
I recently quit my job after only 3 and half months.
Some close friends even complaint about my attitude.
Did it because it wasn't much money plus it was kind of far from my home. But primarily because it literally stop me thinking creatively.
And I feel at this moment I need to produce as much as I can. And I have the tools and the help I need.
If this fails well. I have in theory some years ahead and some laboral experience so I can always get something.
Specially when on my own I keep teaching new stuff on the relatively wide field.
Anyway. Don't mix.
