I think it's funny that people ate up all the hype and paid for something they didn't really want.

It's too bad though. The concept was cool; just executed poorly. If they had done this right it could have had a lot of potential for unique storytelling, lore, and adventure, as well as minecraft like mod-ability. People could get lost in something like this, but I guess they couldn't or didn't know how to create that kind of content.

Oh well.

I also fall into this hype... nearly bought it. But i decide to watch my friend play first, then i think about "don't judge the book by its cover" change into "i judge the game by seeing gameplay". But i do agree the idea is good... but it is just poorly portray the good idea into gameplay.

When in doubt, watch Lets Play youtube vids first.

The stuff they did in No Man's Sky with procedural gen / tech-wise is quite amazing. It's a great tech demo and a window for the upcoming years of content generation.

It being overhyped and oversold and too expensive for what it had to deliver is another story.

It was delivered by a team of 16 people and objectively speaking it is an average game and people would find it average if they weren't victims of the letdown. To think that it could compete on the 3xA market with massive studios they had to pull a marketing trick on it.
