Default Bronto's ban

I don't think he should have been banned. He was a fully fledged, contributing member of this forum.
Posters shouldn't be getting banned here for doing typical INTP things - it doesn't make sense. Maybe a month ban would have been better, even considering all the warnings.
You should only get for hardcore stuff. Where are all the other forums at which people are posting? This kind of enforcement is usually only allowed at super large forums, which this is not. Unless you post explicit imagery then you shouldn't get perma banned.

I missed whatever he got banned for. I don't think we tended to post in the same threads all that much. When we did, things could get a little pointy at times, but I didn't experience anything bannable.

Everyone will talk about how they loved him for a bit. Then I presume another group will come in about how they hate him. Well I hope so at least otherwise the ban would have been pointless. In the end the thread will be locked but not before people are satisfied at least to some extent it was justified and everyone will return to apathy.

I think it was spelled out in the Banned post pretty well, mainly that there was a history. But on recent events ...

bvanevery, as I indicated but didn't spell out in the "Should I do acid thread" is there's a difference between being pointy and being, pick a name, I'll call it - a jerk. I think I was being pointy when I said "why the fuck would you want to do acid?" The key is it was a strong opinion, strongly worded but wasn't personal. Bront didn't like my opinion - great, I like it when people disagree with me, but then made it personal. That utterly pisses me off because the discussion ends at that point. There is no discussion, no sharing of ideas and opinions, just a food fight and a mean one at that.

Personally I come here as one of the few places where people can freely express their ideas without it getting personal and want to see it stay that way.

As devil's advocate, should harassment and hostility be considered INTP traits? I am not saying he should or should not be banned but the reason he was banned would not be for things that are typical INTP unless you are saying Jerk like behavior as a constant communication style is synonymous with INTP being a type that is automatically worse than any other type. Basically his behavior has nothing to do with his type which means he was banned for other reasons i.e. unnecessary projected anger. I had no problems with him personally but I would think that the mods understand his confrontationality on the forum better than I do. I have seen how he has acted thread to thread on occasion which may have been worse behind the scenes private messaging and all that. Unless you define INTP as being the jerk type then all I can say is I disagree on your definition. I only use the word jerk because I have seen posts he has made that feel jerkish to me and I believe INTP's are not necessarily jerks. Usually INTP's may dismiss you but I would not say they actively want to confront you. That would be a messed up unhealthy INTP.

One post I saw was when he said CherryCola was wrong because what he (bronto) said was logically sound and he was mad that Cherry could not see it. From this I can extrapolate that he hates certain people for being actively wrong on issues that are not really wrong. Once you get to the point where you must be right all the time I would say can be an INTP trait but that is only because I remember from a video that said Introverted thinking is the function that listens the least. Dario Nardi said Fi is the function that is the best listener. So speculatively: he hates certain people for being wrong on issues according to his logic. If hating people for being wrong is an INTP trait then yes he was banned for typical INTP behavior but I cannot see any other way for him to be banned because of his type because any type can get angry for other people being wrong on issues important enough for them to get upset about.

It seemed like he got banned more for insubordination than anything else. He did not seem to have derailed threads too deeply into personal drama.

We're talking about post 32, right? Did someone edit some truly offensive part that I'm not seeing now? Because "All of what you say here is ignorant dogmatic folly" isn't even something anyone has a right to complain about. That's the worst thing in the whole post as it stands written now.

Bronto could definitely be jerky. It's not inconceivable to me that he was jerky to enough people for long enough, and resisted the mods trying to curb him, that they finally said enough with you. But I'm not seeing how this specific instance is the trigger. Either something else was posted that I'm not seeing, or he got shafted.

It would be nice, but no one's been able to break him of the habit yet, so don't get your hopes up.

Kind of a resident curmudgeon, he's been bumped off a number of times in the past for shorter duration; gotten into some brutal fights with folks. I think sometimes he's contributed meaningfully to a discussion, and the other half of the time can derail a discussion through what amounts to unnecessarily trolly/belligerent posts.

I was kind of surprised this particular incident was the trigger for a perma, but I guess it was more like a "final straw" versus an atom-bomb-like incident? I'm also not aware of the behind-the-scenes stuff either, which could have been excessive, so...

Hmm obviously we need to determine if what was said is actually ignorant dogmatic folly! If he was only stating facts we could have misconstrued it as an insult.

The problem is that by reading on a forum, one misses a whole lot of non-verbal communication, so it seems hard to give a non-ambiguous interpretation of the seriousness of anger and insults you read (which is true for both sides).

That being said, willing to be right all the time truly is an INTP trait, which should go away with maturity (I used to have trouble with this in the past as well, maybe others too and unpleasant traits are always the most annoying when they remind you of yourself?).

There is always some insecurity about others invalidating their arguments and conclusions, but instead of staying in the realm of ‘hurt’ (as an INFP may), the easiest solution is to just assume everyone else is an idiot.

Harboring insecurities is just another way for indicating immaturity, and an immature INTP will show up as The Authority On All Subjects, assuming they are right and you are wrong. When an INTP is accused of arrogance, it’s generally because they have a growing pathology toward being ‘right’ at all times.

Conversely, the more mature an INTP becomes, the more they’re delighted at being proven wrong. That’s the outer world helping them cleanse data they may have grown attached to / become biased toward!
So it seems to me this is at least something that could be cured ultimately.

But of course, there will probably be more stuff I am not aware of.

Hey, all y'all full of ignorant dogmatic folly. Now all y'all be offended and BAN ME.

Get my point? This is stupid. That can't be the reason he got banned. If it was, we'd need to find a way to replace some moderator.

I figure either there was more to the post that got deleted, or he mouthed off to a moderator in private "for the last time".

He sais “No, why would you do that?” This statement implies a catastrophic failure to exorcise the wockey… Oh sorry your honour I have my notes mixed up. This statement implies almost a shock to the brain of the subject as he has no idea why someone would partake of such an activity.

PIG:Okay I’m bored of this already.

PIG:However as you can see your honour Architect has committed several crimes here. We will however only charge him for the crime of mentioning better ways but leaving everyone hanging as to what those ways were.

PIG:Bronto here says STFU NOOB. It is unclear if architect really is a noob as I am not an expert in narcotics so I’ll bring in my partner.

Totally not bronto: As you see gentlemen Architect has obviously never partaken in acid and has no hands on experience with acid so is advocating for a purely nuclear response. Under proper controlled conditions there are totally times where acid taking is a reasonable response.

PIG: Here you see architect is praying to the god of statistics. This is obviously a crime under the gullibility act of 1957. No? I’m not getting away with that one? Shame…. Well times have changed, statistically in the past doctors killed many patients due to unsanitary practices that doesn’t mean the same is the case today. …Really? Not that one either? Your honour I must…. Fine… Here you see architect appeal to emotion and the good old days in a blatant attempt at manipulation and shit st…. Okay I’ll just move on then.

Do you have any idea of the capacity of substances like LSD to facilitate self-acceptance, emotional grounding, auto-therapy? Do you know there's a burgeoning research field, indicating psychedelics to resolve or decrease anxiety? Have you tried it yourself?

All of what you say here is ignorant dogmatic folly.
PIG: Here you see Bronto argue against arguments being arguments. -30 points to hufflepuff.

However he accurately surmises that the reason for taking acid or indeed any single action will not turn your life around from the bottom of the legal system wasting your life hunting for silly case clues in a forum case. *sobs for a few moments then coughs* Anyway, he appeals against ignorance then calls the subject’s words ignorant dogmatic folly. Interestingly here he does not attack the subject directly just the credibility. This is an improvement over abrasively calling the subject a fool earlier.

Still to be determined. Is the subject talking shit and does he deserves to get hit? Is the fool what did the mule? Find out next week in another THRILLLING episode of PIG. “I’m not PIG DAMMIT I AM A RESPECTABLE INVESTIGATOR AND I DESERVE BETTER THA….

That's definitely "unambiguously offensive and a moderator can step in to squash it" material. A lot of times people let these things go, but they don't have to, and it does melt the forum down when people keep doing that sort of thing.

Architect is a cool guy, though. He's helped me out a lot in the past; I've always found him to be very forthcoming and full of solid knowledge, so I'm taking his side.

No irony in my post. I don't care for people who's default communication style is "shut up you clueless fool". It melts down forums. I think there are basic standards of civility and self-regulation that people should adhere to. And if people can't adhere to them... well they should be given chances, but if they won't take those, they should be chased out.

It doesn't shock me if Bronto had a lot of chances, but chose to blow them, as an act of defiance. He was a good guy in many ways, but young, and hotheaded / prickly about stuff.

Pretty much this.

Animekitty gets his behavior pretty well, especially the projected anger part.

Yeah. Bronto has had a pretty long list of offenses, and we let A LOT of those slide, because as others have said yes, he contributed meaningful things, but he was way too uncooperative. There's a limit to how many things can be allowed to "slide".

This may not be obvious to regular people, but keep in mind that mods "keep tabs" on certain problem people so they're a lot more aware of such things.

He had a tendency to be overly belligerent to people for having the "wrong opinion". There are a few things that come to mind: the conflict with redbaron, attacking zerkalo in her intro thread, attacking other people in their intro threads, getting into ridiculously charged arguments about female beauty in the "who do you find attractive" thread.

The last time he got temp banned over fighting with Sinny and pushing to get her banned, I told him in no uncertain terms, he's on thin ice, and that if his behavior keeps up he will find himself banned. With being given temp bans and so many clues, one can only guess he didn't give enough of a shit.

Any mod warning, and not only from me was met with smug self righteousness about the superiority of his opinion and accusations of petty power tripping. Not to mention all the passive aggressive posts on open forums directed at mods. Again, we ignored most of that, but there's only so much you can work with in these circumstances. There is context in visitor messages, as I already said.

As Architect and EditorOne pointed out there are plenty of ways to inform someone of their ignorance without resorting to such emotionally charged vocabulary without compromising clarity, which he protested about. For most other people, merely saying that would not be cause for a permaban, but for an uncooperative long term problem member like Bronto it can be cause enough.

Bronto attacks were hardly attacks, he was always keeping it diplomatic, i've been in other forums and I've seen true hardcore bullying, no one should take this small fights as something personal. I really don't think he crossed the line. Who cares about repetition. U should unban bronto. If u don't do. I will be pissed with u fukyo.
Bronto was just an unskilled nerd bully. Cmon? Shut up about things u don't know clueless fool? That's like my grandmother isfj in her angry state.

Architect donated to the well being of the forum to get all his enemies banned. You heard it here first! Oh wait, you already knew? Silly Grayman. Now you will be a victim of suicide with a bullet hole in the back of your head too.

Bronto was just an unskilled nerd bully. Cmon? Shut up about things u don't know clueless fool? That's like my grandmother isfj in her angry state.
Unban him for the sake of fairness.
Go start your own forum with blackjack, hookers and bronto; then you can run it how you like. Fyi, this place is not a democracy.

Maybe the whingier members don't realize it, but our mods have a frankly saint-like amount of patience. Moderating is a largely unpleasant task with no reward. It is work; especially when you have petulant children members screaming about imagined 'oppression.' Plus, they have no presence of mind to actually be thankful that there are, somehow, people still willing to put up with the bullshit to facilitate the forum community and keep it healthy. for free.

Without devoted moderation this place would disintegrate and that would be the fate it deserves. As it stands, the moderation is probably too lax, if anything. The cancer has a chance to put down roots and replicate before it's cut out.

Seriously, does anyone remember how long Blob was tolerated? Yikes.

I had nothing to do with it. There were a bunch of ugly posts the other night, I was disgusted and wrote the one post up above saying it's going to far. Gave up on the forum actually, came today just to clean a few things up and found others had the same feeling about the posts. And most of the posts were subsequently deleted, by either the mods or the owners I don't know.

As mentioned there were a bunch of posts that were deleted, others contributed. Like JW says nothing nuclear, just abrasive and apparently enough to reach a tipping point.

Obviously? Maybe so, maybe not. Why not ask and find out? Nobody here knows my history with drugs, wouldn't it be better to have a rational discussion about it? I thought that's what the thread was about.

Anyhow the focus is too much on our stupid little interaction, as said elsewhere that wasn't the main reason.

Completely right. I've owned groups before, way back when the internetz first started. Gave it up, costs money and time and you get grief for it. I briefly considered taking over INTPf, I'd have the backing of a solid group of mods, but there's a very real financial cost to running this site (bandwidth and licensing mainly) I didn't want to shoulder. Just ask Ptah, we had some discussions on this.

Love your mods, they do a lot to facilitate all this free content.

I didn't think bronto's posts where really worthy of a permaban (not even the "clueless fool" one), but I can understand if there's other context/unruliness which casts those posts in a different light.

What I see in Bronto is fucking conviction. He's a guy who actually does follow through with what he believes in for right or wrong. That's just who the guy is. From my perspective, I believe Bronto felt his values (or someone else's) were violated by Architects comment even though Architect didn't mean it to be offensive. And that is not at all a dig at Bronto. Bronto is not afraid to get his hands dirty and deal with the consequences.

Not many people have the guts to stand up for what they believe when their nuts are on the line. That's why I think its a shame that Bronto is gone from this forum. The guy had an incredible character that not many people have so it sucks to see him go.

Donkeyp0rn cloaked in Armani and Coco Chanel is still barnyard banality.

The ban seems to have brought more division rather than letting the kids solve their own issues after having played rough in the playground. Now resentment needs expression.

Nah, it just made what was there more apparent. Division is good to an extent anyways. It's how we keep larger cliques from forming and making the forum like every other forum. You know, a normal social environment.

I'll be honest: I'm a little old and a bit tired of "kids playing rough on the playground". I've had more to deal with than Bronto on that score in certain quarters. We just "got into it" briefly every once in awhile, and it didn't mean that much to me. Like, how I managed to piss him off with a Jared Diamond book suggestion, go figure. Who cares, you can lead a horse to water but you can't make anyone drink. I just needed to understand what he did or didn't do in the present instance, as I came late to the BBQ. I'm thinking the mods operated reasonably well enough in his case, because good qualities aside, he definitely wasn't an angel. There have to be consequences at some point for continued flouting of public standards of civility, or you simply won't get civility. You'll get a bunch of people running their mouths any way they see fit to make people mad, which has a long term cultural engineering effect on who will or won't participate in a forum.

... You do realise what I was saying was a joke right? Also personally I woudn't do any locking or shutting down of conversation yet. Even if it devolves into jokes Bronto is clearly a large ban so it's probably best to let the steam seep out rather than blow a pipe later down the line.

I felt like he was holding back to be honest, though I'm not sure what or why, despite being on the upper end of user post counts he wasn't even 'active' as of late. Also agree with Cheese and TMB that he didn't seem threatening, hostile maybe though.
