I don't really like the sliding scale this uses. I more prefer the Strongly agree, agree, neither agree nor disagree, disagree, and strongly disagree scales.

M 39%
O 77%
T 44%
I 54%
V 17%

SOEID

Largely accurate. M seems true. I really don't care about the materialist stuff, but I've gotten to be a little more, recently, since I've been trying to be more social, that relies on a little more materialism than I'd like. O is high, as I'd expect, since it's largely Intuition. I didn't necessarily expect such a low T, but it sort of makes sense. I'm logical, but not necessarily always analytical. My logic is more "gut," so while I tend to follow my "gut" it's usually more logical than emotional. Besides, it seems to tie in some of Intuition into the low end of the spectrum, and my N is way more powerful than my T. I, I'm surprised is so mid-level. I would have thought it would be either very high, since I love humanity, or very low, since I hate people, but the two seemed to cancel out. V seems just about right. I am discontent with my life, and very apathetic.

There are other MOTIV tests with the agree/disagree options, I just liked the sliding scales version.

One problem: Leaving an item at 50% gets treated as an incomplete -- however, this is not really always the case. I had to fudge a few that I saw as evenly divided just to change the perceptage to get the test to complete.

I only "missed" three and it made me go back and move the slider (even just a percent was good enough) on all three of them in order to finish the test. *shrug*

Actually, I got an error the first time saying I didn't choose between 1 and 99, which I did. I changed all the 99 to 98 and it worked. Perhaps it's just a weird bug

Why do you find it surprising?

Considering the description:
Quote:
Motivation: To be alive
Purpose: Life drive/instinct
Conflict: optimism/motivation vs. pessimism/apathy
Historic antecedent: Freudian Life vs. Death instinct
Historic example: Viktor Frankl
Film example: Chuck Noland (Cast Away)
Counter example: Sylvia Plath

Characteristics: making progress in life, happy, knows who they are, open about who they are, doesn't hide who they are, autonomous, optimistic, realistic, finds being who they are rewarding, knows what they are doing with their life, thriving, not prone to depression, takes initiative, feels comfortable with who they are, emotionally controlled, trusts their own judgment, not stressed, radiates joy, thinks they are living in the best part of their life right now, motivated, has close friends, athletic, good sense of right and wrong, confident, hard working, comfortable expressing romantic interest, knows how to enjoy themself, capable of trust, is capable of getting over social or romantic rejection, feels that their life belongs to them, seeks pleasure, true to self at all costs, not prone to complaining, independent, gregarious, prefers to participate fully rather than view life from the sidelines, not prone to anger, energetic, creative, trusts others, not easily confused, considered attractive by others, feels lucky much of the time, self reliant, true to their word, not a private person, not superficial, doesn't hide their failures from others, more calm than worrying, makes friends easily, good at taking advice, team player, has a lot of fun, not prone to addiction, honest, rational, respects customs (more)

There are a lot of neutrals there, but enough descriptors to show that they are clearly trying to paint the picture of an outgoing, active, jovial, people-person.

For this reason really. I can understand a lot of people being slightly under, my surprise is that people would score well below that.

It's probably just the way the test was presented.

From the word descriptions I'd be somewhere in the 40%-55% range, and I got 22% on the test.

I am pretty happy with the result, seems about right.

I do not believe I fit into the below description of 'vitality', although I am (now) generally happy with who I am and where I am.

I generally hate conservatism, conventionality, and people who claim to be 'normal'. Although I do follow a number of traditions including Christmas.

I think the V scale is not calculated realistically.

Offbeat (Unconventional)

Motivation:
To find new ways to do things

Edit: After reading it, the Thinking description seems to fit the INTJ-type....Offbeat seems more typical INTP, except the wild/risk factor...

Vital vs Depressed (Optimism/Happiness vs. Pessimism/Apathy)

This is the most important drive of the MOTIV system, the most essential to individual happiness, the desire to be alive. None of us chose to be born so it understandably makes sense that not everyone is fully on board with being alive. If you have ever been happy, grateful to be alive, even for a moment, then you know what it feels like for people that have a high Vital orientation, except for them, they are like that most of the time. There was an interesting article recently about a small percentage of the population that doesn't need much sleep.
Continued here: http://research.similarminds.com/the...ity-system/588

The article includes more detailed descriptions of what Vital/Depressed entails, it's interesting at least.

I was a lot more decisive in my choices than normal on this test because of the sliding scale, although it's really just the same as an agree, strongly agree type etc.

Snafu's thread has me thinking. Might this be why I test as INTP on both MBTI and Socionics and have higher results for both Fe and Fi than Si and Se on function tests? If it's worth anything: Ne>Ti>Ni>Fe>Fi>Si>Te>Se

I think what the test is trying to say is that people who score considerably low on V don't typically enjoy life and/or want to die. The 'Depressive' description is explicit enough in this regard:

Spoiler:

Motivation: To return to an inorganic state
Purpose: Death drive/instinct
Conflict: pessimism/apathy vs. optimism/motivation
Historic antecedents: Freudian Death vs. Life instinct; Learned Helplessness
Historic example: Sylvia Plath
Film example: Leaving Las Vegas
Counter example: Viktor Frankl
Characteristics: self hating, sad, inclined to think life is not worth living, feels lost, frequently unhappy for no particular reason, feels trapped in body, not comfortable with self, feels they have little control over life, cannot make it a week without feeling unhappy, pessimistic, has exaggeratedly negative beliefs about themself, feels people would not like them if they really knew them, feels defective, anxious, self-conscious, feels like no one really knows them, hides who they really are from others, feels unable to change their circumstances (learned helplessness), pervasive feeling that something is missing inside them, unrelenting feeling of not being wanted, doesn't know what will make them happy, more reserved than outgoing, has suicidal thoughts and/or impulses, feels like they are just surviving, has identity issues, lacks will power, easily discouraged, feels uncomfortable around others, doesn't trust their own judgement, feels like an outsider

The test is bullshit, nonetheless, 99 isn't a good option. You have to choose 98 instead. His English sucks too. Some questions are odd, and the result contains more nonsense than the Bible.

Perhaps that dominant W is indication that you're not exactly being yourself based on certain circumstances. Just a thought.

Most of those are general ideas... Some of them of course can be applied due to certain circumstances. For example: would you not think that a guy with a gun in his hand threatening to kill you with a big grin on his face, if you won't obey his orders have good intentions?

I'm always myself, unless the situation calls to be extra-nice; can't question certain teachers, unless you want a few points from your tests subtracted. Otherwise, I'm myself. I see no reason to be extra-mean or an illogical idiot, I don't run mafia...
