Lately my muscles have been wanting to squeeze up. As if they're preparing to spasm.
Normally, I attribute this to lack of magnesium. However, in the past, the problem has usually been with a specific part of my body (like my foot), and this time is is more universally all over.

Anyone had this happen before?
Any suggestions?

Beat me to it, I was going to suggest something salty and a glass of water so whether your sodium levels are too high or too low your body can sort it out.

Do you have kidney issues? Look in the mirror and make sure your eyes are white and not a tint of yellow :o

Lol probably won't solve your problem but related to earlier, you should follow Bob & Brad on YT, they are physical therapist and have a lot of videos on stretches and habits that improve your physical well being.

Ooo! I will check that out! Thanks for the salt suggestion. I'd never considered that. Nah, I don't think it's a kidney issue. My eyes look fine! I think it might be salt. Or at least, salt might be part of it. That's a good one.

I'll check out Bob & Brad! There's a few quick little things I do on a regular basis. Anything with a rotary socket, I like to do rotations with (wrists, knees). Recently, I also started stretching my eyes! (Did you know they like to be stretched? I didn't.)

Yeah, so I still need to look into it a bit, but I guess the muscles in your eyes that help you with long distance vision, peripheral vision, etc. can get under-utilized when you stare at a screen for hours on end like I do. Supposedly, it can be good for your eyes if you take time out to stare at things long-distance. Personally, I've tried staring as far out of the corner of my eyes as I can, I did actually feel a difference after not too many iterations of this practice. It didn't feel quite so uncomfortable.

It's something I have to look into, but if it can benefit your eye health, I feel like it's worth checking out, as it's something you can easily do in the course of everyday living, and I love stuff like that. I have all sorts of little things I do for positive benefits. (Ie: sometimes I roll my ankles out a bit when I'm standing in line, and stand on the sides of my feet instead of the flats of my feet, because it can help to keep your ankles flexible and mobile. )

ahh I thought you meant the muscles that move the eye, you are talking about the tiny muscles that adjust your lens. I have heard looking at your thumb on your nose and slowing moving it away from your face works well, its a sniper training thingy.

Oh I'll have to try that. Maybe I'll try it when I'm standing in the supermarket. Just to discourage strangers from talking to me.

I used to have fantastic eye sight, now it's computer vision. I used to read number plates from pretty far away just to challenge my eyes, now that's impossible. My screens are pretty big, 2 x 21 inch monitors. The last 2 years have been computer vision as my monitor is right is too close to me. I blame people's poor eye sight for mine: They picked massive 21" monitors because they can't read, I picked them because it was suggested and now I'm in blurred zone. I can still see objects from far away but no finer details :/

Kinda sounds similar to so-called restless legs syndrome.

I think I have something like that sometimes. Workout usually solves the issue.

Yeah have you tried some of the eye workouts?

Also, are your eyes blurry in the morning? Maybe it’s eye strain from staring at the screen for too long. I think you can get computer glasses for that. Alternatively, you could mock up some of your programming ideas on a white board in between shorter coding sessions

see a doctor

It’s not really worth seeing a doctor for, and in any case, doctors are pretty much useless for this kind of problem. At least the ones in the USA are.

Doctors only diagnosis that which can be treated with drugs. Few doctors are good with advice related to vitamins/minerals, and anything more complicated than that is not usually something they’re equipped to handle, in my experience.

Unless I present with other symptoms that would indicate something like cancer or organ failure, I seriously doubt there’s much a doctor would be able to tell me that I don’t already know or am easily able to figure out.

Nah I don’t think that’s it. This is a whole body thing.

Also I recently realized that I might not actually be getting enough vitamin D. I barely leave the house during the day. Maybe my magnesium isn’t being synthesised for lack of vitamin D.

I did follow up on some of the advice here though and try some salt. I’ve had blood sugar issues before from working out, so maybe I have an electrolyte imbalance? I have a tendency to more or less “graze” on random food stuffs like veggies or fruit juice when I’m in work mode. I don’t think there’s any grazeables I regularly consume that include salt.
I guess cheese. I have some baby bells.

Don’t worry. I don’t wear sunglasses when it is nearly winter.

Ohhh...no. It’s not fibromyalgia. But if it was - who on earth gets massages for that? That sounds like torture.

I did have a mysterious symptom that cropped up when I was super stressed in college and would go to unhealthy extents to make the grade. I would get so sick my skin would hurt. It hurt so bad that my clothes touching me made me want to cry. I was told that it sounded like fibromyalgia....I think if someone wanted to massage me at that point I would have preferred drowning myself. Worst. Pain. Ever.
