I'm going to award 10 points to the posts below for getting the answers right, but not the explanation (I was going to wait until after tha answer was gotten, but it may perhaps cause confusion if they were already guessed; plus it may already be clear to people reading between the lines on INTPx that these are the answers since I asked for an explanation rather than saying it was incorrect).

Hephaestus said:
ⰌⰅ Ava isn't of legal drinking age.

...

Because the reason the drink was a bad idea was because that day, the day of the drink, wasn't her birthday. The logical reason for a day being a bad day to get a drink in response to it not being their birthday, is that they aren't yet of legal drinking age.

10 points

Blorg;280179 said:
ⰍⰁ Keats: Cleats (Keats) and tuberculosis (killing+pale). Idk. The Japanese part is stumping me.

10 points

Again, both answers are correct but neither explanation is what I'm looking for.

Ava and Bob: When Bob's asking about her "favorite", it seems like he's talking about holidays. Ava says her favorite holiday is the one she was born on, and Bob asks if she has her name because she was born on a holiday (Ava means "Eve", as in the eve of a holiday). She says yes, and he asks if the holiday is that day (jan. 10th, either he's oblivious or talking about a more obscure holiday, like League of Nations Day). However, Ava says it's "more special", but Bob would "probably disagree". I'm guessing this is because she was born on a Christian holiday (maybe Christmas?) since Ava is a biblical name and Robert isn't. Bob is both confused by her saying he'd disagree and realizes she can't be of legal age, so he says maybe the drink was a bad idea.

I knew it was something about her birthday but I didn't guessed she wasn't allowed to drink. Damn serac u r kinda a logical monster, if I was a girl I would be trying to date u somehow.

Not the answer I'm looking for!

@jawdropper the solution to your dilemma seems simple enough; just put Serac in drag...

Not the answer jawdropper is looking for!

Meh, trivia has nothing to do with "logic"
Your princess must be in another castle
If I was a chick, I'd be put off, that know it all attitude can't be good for much in this day and age

you tryna cockblock me there, Pizza?

on a serious note, I think it goes without saying that Utisz put together a very interesting mix of questions pertaining to trivia knowledge as well logic puzzles, math, etc.

Which national flag is missing from the sequence below?

I'm guessing soccer in the 90's for the world cup or something... IDK...

Cheers, yep!
I can't really imagine a way to make a pure trivia quiz in a setting like this.
The "trivia" moniker is just tradition I guess; not sure what else you'd call it.

INTPf/INTPx Answer Questions Contest
INTPf/INTPx Maximise Points Earned Contest

That last one's not bad actually.

Not the answer!

So yep, I'll post hints on Satuday 16 at 18:00 CET (unless there's an objection from someone with a good shot of winning @Serac, @CatGoddess in particular? Or @Rolling Cattle?)

The questions with hints will restart at 20 points, going up to 25 points after 12 hours, etc., as before. In case there's still a question open ... we'll see. :)

Until then, the open questions are still worth 40 points of course. :)

Some of these questions are weird or don't really count too much, and are made easy for certain people on purpose, so it's mainly a matter of speed then than anything else. It's just a fun game for a few, doesn't really measure IQ or important qualities.

Yep, it's just a game. Like many games, mainly it measures the ability of people to do better than other people at the game. :)

I think I've solved the code one!

The code needs two space characters removed from after the phrase "and he smiled", and another two space characters removed after the phrase "and he said". This would perfectly set up a binary code of tabs and spaces every other line which when converted to ascii spells out "AUSTRIA".

...Wow. Is this what all of us look like when we try to reason out answers to these puzzles? (Not in an insulting way; it's just that I would never have thought of that in a million years)

If you have a text editor that shows the invisible characters like newlines and spaces, a really odd bunch of spaces and tabs shows up in the code after each phrase. After that, it only took a few minutes for me to check them against morse code, and then binary. In binary ASCII it reads: A-S-RIA with the hypens being strange ascii symbols. The strange symbols need two bits removed from their beginning to give the "U" and the "T"

CatGoddess, I thought you were almost close at your first attempt at it, when you were putting html tags in. You mentioned something with a "/n" which reminded me of a newline carriage return. I skim posts fasts, I wasn't really sure what you meant.

not bad, Cattle.

I was thinking of converting the text to ASCII and whatnot, but I thought there's no way this quiz is that hardcore. Apparently I was wrong

10 points

But you've not cracked it yet! You're on the right lines though! This doesn't explain how it is programming code, just that there is some ASCII data hidden in there. :)

The correction is not quite what I'm looking for either.

Very impressive nonetheless! And a big breakthrough.

Originally I posted questions with hints here but decided to move them to the OP to not have to manage two four versions of the questions. :)

Just a reminder that questions are now worth 20 points again, moving to 25, 30, 35, 40 in increments of 12 hours.

Damn, it's Assad? I wouldn't have guessed that; in fact I was going on a probable dead end reading about "The Meursault Investigation", an Arab's take on the ideas presented in The Stranger (a book which I enjoyed a fair bit).

i come from a landSTSTSSTTSSL

where S,T,L are space, tab and linefeed respectively

The answer is correct (10 points for lbloom) but the explanation for the original question is stil missing.

One of the ambient songs was gotten on INTPx by scarydoor (10 points).
Last song still open!

xzibit: The photo doesn't have the metadata for where/when it was taken, so he can't be tracked down through it? Rocco Castoro was involved in a fiasco with McAfee, who was fleeing from the authorities. https://www.wired.com/2012/12/how-vice-got-john-mcafee-caught/

Not the answer I'm looking for. But you're warm.

Hahaha I was about to go through a grueling wikipedia page read on every minor detail about Assad, but then I realized that you made the question before the hint, so I couldn't have known it was Assad through the eye/brother thing... So it couldn't have been a tiny clue hidden in the details of his personal life; the question had to actually lead to the answer... And then I thought that maybe "sad" meant salad in Arabic, because he has "A Ssad", and then I realized that the al with the sad made salad. And then I noticed that "Bashar" has a B in it, which isn't that common of a letter, and Arab does too...

I note that in McAfee's picture with vice he has a similar expression to Xzibit's in the photo, whereas Castoro has a similar expression to a different popular image of Xzibit. So... is it because Xzibit hasn't realized yet that's he's going to be turned into a meme, much like McAfee didn't realize yet that he was going to get caught?

I realised a few days ago that there was little hope of anyone getting that one without a hint; I figured it to be the least likely to be answered. :)

Also I just noticed that I left a stray "a" in there.

The question should really have been "Which Arab has salad?". Anyways.

this is basically stealing CatGoddess' idea so apologies and creds to her if this is correct

the xzibit photo has metadata showing he's in the middle of nowhere in Victoria Island, Canada. is it that he's trolling the person looking up the metadata?

Wait... the area of Victoria island xzibit's at is recursive, just like the structure of his meme. He's on a piece of land in the water (the larger island), but if you scroll in again, he's in a lake on the land. Scroll in more and he's on a piece of land in that lake. Go further and he's in a water area in that land, and then he's on a piece of land in that water. He's amused by this.

Correct! 20 points!

According to the geo coordinates in the photo, he's on an island in a lake ... on an island in a lake ... on an island.

I went down a number of dead ends with xzibit; I thought maybe Castoro leaving Vice was significant, because maybe xzibit quit drugs or something shortly before the photo. That didn't lead anywhere though. And then I thought maybe the question was a trick and found the "sohappy v. smith case" which ruled in favor of some native american tribes, and got really excited because xzibit's location was in nunavut...

In the end I was just idly scrolling in and out on google maps when it hit me.

Also, I looked at the intpx thread and apparently they're all in collusion against us! :elephant:

There were a few important breakthroughs on this one, but I think the main one was the McAffee connection. Once the idea was out there of the geo coordinates in the photo, I think the countdown was on. Also good teamwork on that one!

I think that's the second time you were a little early for the points increase, but you're killing these questions with hints all the same. :)

boy, the ava one is a real doozy. I cannot make any sense of it

my initial guess was that she was born during a total solar eclipse, and maybe there was some partial eclipse at Jan 10 in north america, hence she says "it's more special than that". But I have no clue what that has to do with her name or that bunch of nurses running :ahh:

Admittedly it is a little bit out there, but in some sense it's also quite simple. There's one key insight I guess and the whole thing should unlock.

It's not my favourite question of the lot, but I think it's doable. Let's see I guess. :)

Hmm... Just putting this out there: maybe when she says "I was born on one" she doesn't mean "I was born on ___"; she literally means "I was born on ONE." Like, maybe he asks her if she has a favorite month and she says she was born on "one", as in January? Although I'm not sure what that has to do with her name. Maybe that's a misleading part and she has a middle name we're not told about?

The favorite vs. favourite thing is interesting.

This could imply different time zones/countries, but if they're currently in different countries, Ava probably couldn't have gotten a drink with Bob. The answer is that Ava is under the legal age, so she must have been the one to drink, and Bob must have known she drank, so I think it rules out them being in different places at the time of the text.

However, they could still be from different places/cultures...

Thinking about it, in case one or both questions are still open, I will extend the hints a little tomorrow at 18:00 UTC without changing the points, mainly in the interest of not dragging out the end too much.
