Anyone here play this game? I did a cursory search and didn't really come up with anything.

I just bought it because I got a gift card for steam and it was just about what the gift card was worth and I have heard good things about it.

So far I think it's pretty damned awesome. I spent way too much time creating my character and going though the first crisis tutorial. I can finally play the actual game after talking to two followers.

Great game so far, hope it forwards its great start.

I don't know anything about the computer game adaptation, I'm just familiar with Monte Cook's tabletop RPG Numenera on which it is based (which basically simplifies the character creation process / gameplay process so you can focus on collaborative narrative).

There is a lot of dialog in this game for how (comparably) small it is to most games I play.

So far I feel like I am using up way too many sinks into skill checks. I have only been able to afford to rest twice so far and I still haven't completed a main quest I don't think.

I have found that blue is my color :P apparently. Battles are pretty difficult actually. I haven't quite figured out the optimal way to do them yet.

Apparently gear is a huge part of this game since level ups come far and few inbetween.

There are two (expansions?) DLC packages for this game. IDK if I want to buy them or not at this point; need to look into this some more since they are not really cheap compared to the base game.

It's mostly a story driven RPG, and that is something I like. There is a lot of creative writing in this game and that is kinda what sells it for me. The universe itself is really cool. (I have lesser expectations of this game after reading some things about it, however. this mostly has to do with how the leveling system works - the stuff that Jenny was talking about.) The story is really interesting, but I still don't think it's as good as DA:O. IMO that game is in a league of its own, really. I know this more after I have seen how well that game has aged.

I am enjoying it so far, but one game I keep comparing it to is FFXII. the difference is that FFXII has more places to go, it's a hell of a lot bigger, but the universe is kinda sorta similar in a way. This is another game I really really liked and put a lot of hours into.

Overall, I was thinking this game was going to be really really cool, like something epic. It does have its strong points, and the very beginning of the game really hooked me in, but it's not quite as epic as I thought it would be.

Sounds interesting, I was wondering how it would translate. I don't think it would appeal as much as a game system to the mechanically minded, it would be people more interested in story.

Yeah, I cannot say I have played enough computer RPGs in recent years since that time period of my life, but DA:O was pretty amazing, considering all of your choices had an impact on the narrative direction of the game and the characters were all very strongly written, with strengths and flaws. Years later, I still think of them and feel something. One of the plotlines you can set up between Morrigan and Alistair is just crazy, but that's the kind of thing I love.

That's too bad, although it is just the first release of what was a kickstarter RPG. So maybe once they get feedback from players, they'd use that to drive changes for any later releases. Does their target audience play computer games much or are they far more tabletop? I am not sure.

I believe this game comes with mixed reviews on steam, let me double check. Yes, I was right. To my knowledge, It plays this middle ground between being a hard core pnp video game (which doesn't quite sell the pnp crowd) combined with the fact they made some compromises in the structure of the game (HP being one of them) late in its development, and because of this, since the game represents that it has this depth beyond what is typical (in this regard I don't think it measures up to TW3 [or previously mentioned DA:O]) in categories of both storytelling and, what you mentioned, the mechanical aspect of the game (let's be honest a really good game blends these two well, which this game does a good job of) regarding stats, skills, and abilities, BUT, if you are looking for a really immersive game, this game does a stellar job on that front. The immersion is probably the strongest part of the game IMO. Just playing the game in this universe has had me a bit more curious about things in general, and that is a wonderful side effect of when something has the ability to bring things out of me that I wouldn't be thinking about otherwise. The difference here between TW3 and this game is that Torment is much more intellectual based regarding certain things while TW3 is more skill (as in for the player) based. I enjoy both, but my preference once again is DA:O because I think the pause and play is a beautiful middle ground, and ultimately, what I like best. I may even like the universe in Torment better that DA:O, however. It is truely beautiful blend of sci-fi and fantasy. But I am sure you already know about the universe, so it's a shame I can't use that as a selling point for you (at least for Jenny, IDK about others here).

I did the kickstarter for it but wasn't that into it when I finally got it installed. There was a large amount of reading which was ok if not super exciting for a video game. Every so often i would get to places i needed to apply my powers to get a result, I really didn't understand how that was supposed to work or what I should do. The couple of times I got into combat I either was vaporized or slowly diminished resources until I was to week to continue. I didn't have a real idea of how to get them back mid "dungeon".
