Hi everybody.

For years, I thought i was an INFP or some kind of defective, withdrawn ENFP, but it turns out I might be INTP.

Other possibilities are INFJ or INTJ, but I seriously doubt it.

In any case, I'm gonna lurk around a bit, and possibly post a few things, and see what happens.

Peace.

What makes you conclude INTP over other personality types? :smoker:

The wonk part of your name lubricates agreement (about INTP) for what it's worth.

Why were you depressed?! :slashnew:

It would take too long to explain how i arrived at this. Besides, its only tentative. All i know for sure is i'm an intuitive. The rest is clear as mud.

As far as the depression, i guess a better word would have been "withdrawn". I thought i was some kind of underdeveloped, relatively introverted extravert. But thats kind of silly. most likely i'm just an introvert.

"Depression" was a poor choice. Has the wrong connotation. I think i'll change it.

Hello there.

Your pic is kinda bothering me.

Yeah why is that? At first I thought it was somebody I knew, then realized it's a common enough look, but the photo is subtly disturbing for some reason, no offense intended in the least. At any rate by your look you seem more outwardly directed then INTP's are usually wont, I might guess ISTP (don't let the S throw you off, Sensors are intuitives too). But thats pretty sketchy.

Anyhow the best way to find out is examine your past behaviors compared to prominent profiles and in particular the functions.

You SHOULD feel uncomfortable and HURT. Now you have no chance of being one of catatonic's generous boyfriends.

The other INTPs would rather you look like this (it would make them more comfortable)

Well, I had never seriously considered the possibility that I was a Sensor before, but I checked out ISTP for the heck of it.

No. I really don't think I'm ISTP, but I guess it was interesting considering the possibility.

Yeah, it was a fake smile. I make an effort to smile in photos, but I guess since it's insincere, it comes off a little creepy.

Unfortunately, the blank expression I normally have is just as creepy, so no matter what, I'm always gonna look like a creep! ;)

Oh well.

And yes, I've been accused of being arrogant many times.
There's a tiny bit of truth to that, but I'm workin on it.

I don't believe in online dating, I don't go online to search for generous bf. :D

I'm studying to read people's expressions for fun.

Yeah, I've noticed.

That's one major reason I didn't think I was an INTP before.

If I am indeed an INTP, I seem to be a little more polite than most. (though I've been accused of being rude, cold, etc, many times, for sure)

My mom is an INFJ and my wife is an INFP. I think I've been fairly positively influenced by them.

I guess you're not a good liar in real life.
If you try to do the fake smile, you should smile with the whole of your face, not only focus on the mouth. Therefore people will think it's a sincere smile and less creepy.
I guess mouth, cheeks, and eyes have the same important role to create a "real" smile.

People that seem unaware of the rest of their face when smiling look the most honest to me, when it's effortless.

Some social butterflies are great at full smiles, but generally those seem like the less sincere smiles because they'll be trying too hard to look presentable instead of just smiling naturally.

Those are a lot of possible MBTIs. Do you have a general understanding of the cognitive functions yet? That would help a lot. Look up Ti and Ni and try to understand the differences.

Also, welcome to the forum.

This is the first I've heard anything like this. Generally full-faced smiles are considered more genuine, and smiles with just the mouth are considered awkward.

From what I see on people, the natural smile is always affected all of the muscles on the face. But the fake one only affected the muscles around the mouth area.

Well, no. I guess I have to admit it, I don't really fully understand the functions, even though I've been into this stuff for a few years.

Basically, I'm fairly certain I'm an Intutitive, but I don't fully understand the difference between Ni and Ne.

And Feeling/Thinking is even more confusing to me.

I identify with Intuition more than any other function, so it would seem that I'm a dominant Intuitive. yet, I really don't think I'm INFJ, INTJ, ENFP or ENTP.

Eventually, i'd like to take an official test, with a consultation, but it's just too expensive. As far as I know, it tends to be around $200 or $300.

I know what you guys are talking about. Full face smiles are the socially accepted/respected ones, but I'm saying people that aren't naturally emotive try too hard to look presentable and come off worse than someone who naturally smiles only at the mouth.

sorry had to do that.

I still have a limited understanding of MBTI, embarrassingly.

@wonkavision

Don't bother, here's a good link to the functions if you haven't crossed it yet. You can further research on these functions and read all the type descriptions off of your other Google researches.

However, note Socionics is different from MBTI. I am clearly an INTP(ILI) in Socionics however I can't completely be certain for MBTI.

Well, after about 10 years of exploring every REASONABLE possibilty in the MBTI world, I have concluded that I'm an INTP.

Aint that somethin?

And who knows, maybe I'll change my mind again, somewhere down the road, but for the time being, I'm INTP.

I'm posting it here because it's not worth an entire thread. But in a way, I feel like shouting it from the rooftops.
It's kind of a relief to finally OWN being an arrogant and socially-retarded misfit supergenius who appears, on the outside, to be a space-out moron half the time.

Hooray for INTPS! :D

I'm somewhat curious what you think of my self-typing as INTP.

You're the only person I've had any substantial interaction with here.

Any comments?

.... ehhh... well, I haven't interacted with you enough to have specific details in mind that I could point to.

But I don't have an issue with you claiming to be INTP; it's in the ballpark. You're not at the "hardcore T" extreme with little aux dev, though, you're at least median or interact with some N.

At the moment, I'm leaning pretty heavily toward INTJ again!

Eventually, I'm just gonna have to pay for an official test. I need some closure on this thing!!! :storks:

Ha ha! wow!

This article about Christopher Hitchens being an INTJ and displaying Inferior Se....

This totally sounds like me. It's embarrassingly accurate. LOL

http://www.celebritytypes.com/blog/2012/04/christopher-hitchens-and-extroverted-sensing-se/

It's also funny how I'm an outspoken, theologically conservative Baptist, and yet how similar I am to Hitchens, the outspoken critic of all religion.

But I noticed they also typed Martin Luther as INTJ, so I guess the common thread is "OUTSPOKEN," regardless of what "side" theyre on.

I'll bet A W Pink was an INTJ too.

Well, this has become a blog of sorts. A journal. A place to "think out loud", I guess.

So here's another entry.

I'm back to INFJ.

I guess I just have some NT-ish qualities. Possibly due to the Tertiary Ti.

I'm glad you... er, sort of found your type.

I eventually folded and turned to some professionals. After a lengthy Skype chat (and an equally lengthy written assessment) they were all "lolinfj".

So that was nice.

I'm somewhat curious what you think of my self-typing as INTP.

I'll take a stab at it..;)

If I am indeed an INTP, I seem to be a little more polite than most. (though I've been accused of being rude, cold, etc, many times, for sure)

That's Fe sounding, could be your inferior type bleeding through, but I doubt it based on this:

My mom is an INFJ and my wife is an INFP. I think I've been fairly positively influenced by them.

INTP's are highly resistant to being influenced.

I'm back to INFJ.

I tend to agree..:)

INFJ stack:
Dominant: Introverted Intuition
Auxiliary: Extraverted Feeling
Tertiary: Introverted Thinking
Inferior: Extraverted Sensing

Ni

Introverted iNtuiting involves synthesizing the seemingly paradoxical or contradictory, which takes understanding to a new level.
Using this process, we can have moments when completely new, unimagined realizations come to us.A disengagement from interactions in the room occurs, followed by a sudden "Aha!" or "That's it!" The sense of the future and the realizations that come from introverted iNtuiting have a sureness and an imperative quality that seem to demand action and help us stay focused on fulfilling our vision or dream of how things will be in the future.

Fe

The process of extraverted Feeling often involves a desire to connect with (or disconnect from) others and is often evidenced by expressions of warmth (or displeasure) and self-disclosure.
The "social graces," such as being polite, being nice, being friendly, being considerate, and being appropriate, often revolve around the process of extraverted Feeling.

The biggest reason I don't think your an INTP.

Wow.

Well, I guess I'll change the avatar.

This is making me pretty uncomfortable.

That's awfully Fe sounding to me.

But hey, what do I know....

Hey, thanks Coyote!

Your reasoning, of course, is solid.

Yeah, I'm pretty sure I'm INFJ.

Don't know WHY I keep questioning it. It's really kind of obvious, I guess.:D
