I feel I belong decently enough, but I fear I shall forever be the "feeler" in people's eyes :(

I have the feeling we're both hosed.

Here, I'll paint your toenails. :D

@own8ge
0. I don't belong here and could certainly be considered being equivalent to deleting my account. Problem is, I don't belong in life. Never have belonged anywhere.
I can solve that problem for you. Come and be my slave. Then you will have a place to belong.:D Report back here for your chore assignment.

BTW for your security I try to take care of my belongings. However every once in a while I lose them. Then I'm have to take the loss.

So far as I can tell, this may be the ONLY place I belong.

I feel like I don't have to censor my thoughts as much when I post here. Slightly less anxiety also. So I guess that's some sense of belonging.

I still have enough anxiety that I will be rejected, that I don't post much*. :phear:

*combined with the problem that what I was going to say has already been said.

You may be saying it to someone who has never heard it before ... and even if they did, it is coming from a different person.

I have voted 6, because i am not sure how long i will stay,
however people here seem to be quite nice and as long as i don't make any arch-enemies or witness any internet drama, i might stay a little longer.
So, all in all neutral+1 ;)

Interesting results! I voted 6 because no one seems to hate me, and no one seems to love me, but I leant towards belonging – I suppose because I am an INTP. I've gotten into some arguments, but I think they were all well-meaning.

I have admittedly caused some waves for some people. I suppose that is evidence that I truly belong. If I can get into just a few more heated arguments we could all be like family. I suppose the issue is that I am critical and not afraid of retaliation. I generally am worried about how I may affect other peoples feelings but over the grand scheme of things, my obnoxiousness usually is a part of me trying to get people to consider certain things.

There is a woman and a child on a very busy street. The woman is distracted on the phone and is holding a mirror trying to fix her hair or whatever. She seems oblivious of the child who is walking on the curb of the sidewalk with cars zipping by on the other side. I envisioned the child falling into the cars and getting killed, then I envisioned the child and parent crossing the street and the mother not paying attention when a car comes through the intersection. I know these are not real, but possibilities that need to be addressed, but how do I address the issue? The distracted mother is not going to take me seriously and I cannot explain that I see this as an issue mostly because of how distracted she is. So I look at the child and notice something on his face and vision formulates. I take action. I tell the mother the child has a dirt on his face, or chocolate or something. The mother notices the child and then grabs the child from the curb, she examines his face and begins to rub off the dirt. I take off. She cleans her boy up but then wonders why I said what I did. Perhaps she thinks I care about her boys image as much as she does, or perhaps she thought I was just interested in her. She does not know that she understood what I was trying to communicate the moment she grabbed her boy from the curb. Now that she is looking into the words instead of the actions she is missing the point, the big picture. The world as I see it.

How did I know the mother would grab the boy and clean his face instead of go why are you telling me this? The mother had dressed the boy very nicely and his hair was very well kept. The mother had a mirror in her hand and was very concerned about her image. The concern of self image was reflected on the boy and the boy becomes an extension of her image and so telling her that the boy has dirt on his face would be equivalent of telling her that she had dirt on her face. The first instinct would be to get rid of the dirt and the second instinct was to really consider my intentions in what I said.

Well, i'd say that this is actually a more efficient strategy than being direct and getting into an argument with her.
Because, had you confronted her the way you originally intended,
she would have gone into self-defending and
"mind your own business, i am a capable mother, now go away" mode.
Whether she will actually think the thing through to the end is in the hands of powers outside of your influence.
But you have sown the seeds and that is worth it, i suppose.

Oh, i don't know, i just felt the need to put a ridiculous number there,
as a placeholder for something slightly more meaningful.

I thought you were counting your steps or maybe your trips. Which one do you count?

Yes, definitely belong here, more than anywhere I know. Therefore I voted ''8''. Finding this place was good. Like finding a secluded island in the ocean.

For myself, a three.

I'm here primarily because I'm at the stage in life where my tertiary Ti is developing; what better place to lurk than an INTP forum?

That aside, I appreciate the intellectually stimulating discussions. Verily, you're a fairly smart bunch. I respect that.

I need to meditate on that.

I thought on this for 10 years. For five I counted the trips and then for another five I counted the steps. After this, I realized the question is misleading. Neither the trips or the steps should be counted. Both the trips and the steps should be accepted. What counts is the Walk. You cannot understand the walk if you do not understand both the trips and the steps.

You may be saying it to someone who has never heard it before ... and even if they did, it is coming from a different person.

That's their fault for not reading the entire forum!

@ anyone who cares...

You may be saying it to someone who has never heard it before ... and even if they did, it is coming from a different person.

The idea that things should only be said once seems to be a dominant idea or belief in this forum by certain individuals.

There are good reasons to say the same thing in a different way. The understanding might be different the second time. Something in the larger picture could have been missed. Sometimes a reminder is good to have. If you care about learning the people around you and understanding what is important to them, it is good that they post some of the same stuff in their own point of view so that we can understand them better.

The idea that we should only post something once seems such an arbitrary feeling of little thought on the values attributed to a second point of view. Anyone who feels it is a waste of time can skip over the reading.

Anyways, as you read this, you are experiencing first hand a post that comes to the same solution and idea but in the perspective of another individual. Did it provide any worth? Do you understand me better? Did it give you any new insights? Was it instead just a waste of your(whoever reads this) time?

**There is just as much to be gathered in what they say as well as the "way they say it".

Agreed. :oldman:
I also like the lingual twist you employed there.
