Anon is just a bunch of attention whores in my opinion. From the perspective of someone who has a strong background in computers, they are doing the bare minimum as far as 'hacking' is concerned and getting tons of publicity. DDoS'ing a site/server requires very little experience or effort.

I'm not sure, but it's rather chilly.
A bunch of self-identified nerds saw someone invent "Anonymous", and liked the idea of being a part of something bigger than themselves. So, it got a bit of a following.
Let them have their fun, I suppose.

It's all rather vague.

"Anonymous" isn't a group. That's the whole point. Anyone can do anything in the name of anonymous. To refer to "anonymous" as "them" is to miss the point.

They call themselves "we" and "us," but nobody else should use the pronouns "they" or "them"?

When something is done in the name of Anonymous, they are referring to themselves, ie, the ones who did the thing. Think of it like a like a free software license - anyone can use it, but that doesn't mean if two programs use the same one it was written by the same people. Though to be fair, it would seem as if many of the people who do things in the name of Anonymous don't seem to grasp this concept themselves.

This is the slogan that first founded anonymous. All of them think of themselves as "we." It does not matter whether or not they are centrally organized (though I suspect that they are). They are acting according to a single identity and a limited set of principles and methods. That makes them a group.

They say "We are Everywhere. We are everyone. We are Anonymous". This negates the idea of a group. "They" are everyone, meaning there is no group ("they" are us). The whole purpose of calling themselves anonymous is because there's no organization. It's a shared idea, nothing more. It has no owner, no structure, no leadership, and no requirements.

Don't take the cheap slogans literally. Anonymous is not everyone. For example, I am not part of Anonymous. If they call themselves, "we," then the rest of us can call them "they."

Anonymous probably intends the "We are Everywhere. We are everyone." thing to mean that any given place may have members, and that you cannot tell who they are. Not that everyone is a part of anonymous.
Anonymous apparently denies involvement with some things, which indicates that there must be some sort of group, some way for Anonymous to know that whoever did it was not Anonymous.

A bunch of members of Operation Payback were recently arrested by the FBI. Not as anonymous as they thought.

In an amorphous, leaderless group, membership of the group is decided by consensus. That is, if someone claims to have acted on behalf of Anonymous and the rest of Anonymous say, "They're not with us," that person isn't a member of Anonymous. If someone claims that Anonymous did not do something and the rest of Anonymous say, "Yes we did," Anonymous did that thing. That's how it's possible for Anonymous to deny involvement; it doesn't imply that the group has a structure or official spokespeople.

However, the point was that there is a group. There may not be a formal hierarchy, but there is a group.

But an amorphous one. It's not a formal group, either; it's a group identity claimed by numerous individuals, many of whom are unconnected to many of the others.

I like Anon. What they're doing is obviously having an effect, and I salute them for their bold efforts.

As for their plan, I endorse what they're doing, as it's helping people to realize the inherent flaws to our current system. Capitalism will either collapse utterly, or result in the systematic destruction of our planet's environment and resources, at which point it will fail. You cannot have a system of continuous growth on a world of finite resources. What we need is a system of social equality and environmental stability/sustainability. The greatest expression of this concept has been explored and planned in detail by the Venus Project and Zeitgeist Movement- two organizations I heartily support.

I could care less about their reasoning for action, but their way of going about it is annoying. I am pleased on the rare occasion that Anonymous actually hacks a webserver. Other than that, all they know how to do is DDoS for a few hours and call it 'hacking'. I am no black hat hacker, but the thought that people consider that actual 'hacking' disgusts me.

They need to sit down, look at some source code, and develop 0 day exploits if they want to do something useful with their lives. At least then, they would have enough knowledge to:

a) Not get caught
b) Actually gain information instead of just temporarily booting a server or entire POP from the internet.

Anon took down a whole bunch of websites that hosted childporn, or so I've read. That's pretty righteous.
