The 1970s were fairly uninteresting and deluded thugs --- under the impression that East Germany was Paradise --- murdering at random because of Daddy Issues aren't that appealing, but it has a mordant interest.


All anyone will remember is the issue of whether, after learning that fellow comrades had been stopped with bullets from hi-jacking a plane, four chief actors either committed suicide in a secure prison or they were visited by agents of the authorities.


Either scenario reflects great credit on the German Spirit.

I wasn't being sarcastic. I think both outcomes would be excellent: one in the Roman mode of falling upon one's sword to despite one's adversaries, and one in the Night of the Long Knives tradition.


I wish more modern political figures carried out their feuds by self-ending or murdering their opponents: Brown cutting his throat rather than leave No. 10 would beat reading that Cameron was taking over from Brown; or Democrat Death Squads gunning down Dick Cheney on his doorstep would be jollier than reading of George W. Obama peacefully taking over from Barack H. Bush.

And beer means nothing to me. :)
