Speaking of the Orwellian, I heard of a guy down in Texas who had modified an fMRI machine into an infallible lie detector, but he was using to tell for sure whether people really, really did prefer product A, in a 2:1 ratio to product B...

Of course images of Cognitive Engineers from the Quality Control division of the Human Resources branch of the Government knocking on the door flashed thru my mind...
